NEWS24.CO.ID -  Again and again, a case of medical negligence was occured in India.

The Delhi State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission found a doctor to have wrongly to operated the left foot of a teenage girl after she got the polio-stricken in 2003.

On June 3, 1999, the girl and her father named Avtar Singh went to Delhi from their hometown Muktsar, Punjab, to find a cure for her condition. At that time, she was diagnosed with “post-polio equinovalgus” condition in the right foot.

As a cure, the doctor advised surgery. Kaur was admitted at a clinic on May 30, 2003 for the surgery on her right foot and the doctor obtained the family’s authorisation and consent. But instead of operating on Kaur’s right foot, Dr Maini performed the surgery on the left one, the family claimed.

Dr P S Maini, precisely to have operated on the left foot of Harpreet Kaur for post-polio equinovalgus on May 30, 2003 at Sama Nursing Home. And, post-surgery, the girl had lost her walking ability.

Now, the patient who underwent the surgery for a polio-related deformity, has accordingly been compensated with Rs 10 lakh for the post-surgery injury she suffered, impeding her education and matrimonial prospects.


The doctor admitted to negligence. He is, therefore, directed to compensate complainant Harpreet Kaur by paying her Rs 10 lakh for the injury and mental agony caused to her. Post-surgery, she could not pursue her studies and her matrimonial prospects were badly affected.
